Twyane, thanks for that observation (which had escaped me, I must admit) and for the detailed explanation that I clipped (but will study). One of the problems - or, at least, an issue - in making envelopes work in Writer is the coordination between the wizard's form list and the printer. The wiki FAQ describes this coordination as critical - though that warning is set in a context of such a bizarre procedure that I doubt the possibility of making sense of it. I think you may have identified one of the keys to fixing this.
