Actually /you/ *need* to post information in *this* list so that the
users of this list aren't left in the dark. You can't just 'hit& run'
on this list and close it down without *first* giving the users of
*this* list the benefit of knowing how/what/why, etc. Oh, and also
updating the web pages that I pointed out.

Are you accustomed to making demands on strangers? On project
volunteers? You may lack information, but your lack does not
automatically become my problem. If you have more questions, I've
already requested that they go to [email protected]. I
do not demand this. I request this. It makes it more convenient for
me. You are welcome to ignore this request. But I answer questions
at my convenience, not yours.

By my count this list has over 29416 posts archived going back to 2002.
At least that is what I can see from the posts I can read via gmane.org.
Yes, and perhaps reading over the years of archives will ameliorate
your loneliness when this list is gone. Or you can send an email to
[email protected] and subscribe to the new
Apache OpenOffice.org users list.

You pop in annoucing:

Please note that, as part of the overall migration to Apache, this
list will be closed. Based on feedback received, including from
participants on this list, we've decided to create a users list at the
Apache OpenOffice.org project to serve as a continuation of
[email protected].

You are invited to subscribe to the new list by sending an email to:
[email protected]

That Apache list is live now. Although [email protected] is not
going to disappear immediately, it will eventually be shut down. So
you might want to finish the threads you are engaged in here, but try
to start new ones at [email protected]. We're talking
weeks, not months, before the migration completes.

Thanks!

Yes, that was my note. I'm glad it arrived.

and don't respond to responses regarding your post (except to Larry's of
course). Again: "Is this what can be expected from
ooo-apache in the future?". Many users on this list may not even have a
clue as to what 'incubator.apache.org' is, who /you/ are, and why this
is all taking place.

Larry responded to your questions. If you have follow up questions,
I'd welcome them at [email protected]. The list we are
on right now is going away. On the Apache lists we're discussing the
migration of the OOo lists, the projects, the support forums,
Bugzilla, the wiki, etc. It is all going over to Apache and the
discussions have been taking place on Apache lists for a few months
now. You're welcome to join those discussions. But we're not going
to debate Apache project business on a non-Apache list. No, not even
if you demand it it.

The users on this list went through several months of trauma regarding
the transition from Sun to Oracle list changes (including bug
reporting). Now you show up with this?

Trauma? Really? Have you considered trying a less dangerous hobby?

Answer my question, explain the points I made regarding the web pages
and your new list, and stick around to answer questions regarding the
affect it will have on users on *this* list. Only then will you have
(IMO) any credibilty here.
...
And I do value your opinion very much. But I'd value it even more
over on [email protected].

Will the last user on this list kindly please turn out the lights, lock
the door, and post a google map with directions to Apache/IBM?

As stated several times, the next step is to join the list at
[email protected]. This is entirely voluntary, of
course.

Regards,

-Rob

...

Unsnipped.

I reckon that pretty much sums it up. Y'all have a great time& hope to
see other users from this list over at:
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/
[email protected]: User support list for LibreOffice users
needing help with a problem.

Bye& it was fun while it lasted.

Gary Lee (NoOp)
Great job Rob of alienating another volunteer who helps provide support to OOo users. The Apache ooo project needs the many volunteers on this list to provide support to users. Pissing on them like this is really going to encourage them to join the Apache ooo project. Great job of building a community.
