You need to use Page Styles. Once you get used to the idea, it's very
easy. You need two page styles - let's call them 'cover page' and
'standard page'. 'Cover page' probably wouldn't have a header or
footer. 'Standard page', on the other hand, WOULD have at least a
footer set (with the page number inserted). The absolute easiest way to
do it is set the first page of your document to the 'cover page' style.
Then insert a page break, and you'll note you can set the page style for
the next page within the page break. Set it to the 'standard page', and
DON'T restart the numbering.
