Well, the 'kluge' factor is high on this one - but you select the cell you want to drag and drop, ethen xtend the selection to an adjacent cell - then retreat the cursor back to the original cell. You can now drag and drop the single cell.
Trust me, do it often enough and you won't even be annoyed any more.
