Your presumption is incorrect. OOo supports several flavours of English,
including UK.
That's debatable. There are some long-standing bugs with language support in OOo-2.x, such as ( but definitely not limited to ):

In my experience, OOo-1.x is the only version that supports actually *using* non-US dictionaries.
