Hi again.
   
  Still no solution in sight.  I've defaulted everything I can se to Eng-Uk but 
the spellchecker refuses to be changed and insists on remain as 'Spellchecker 
(english (usa) as the title at the top of the box.

You have installed the en-GB dictionary and ancillary files? If you
haven't do so via File > Wizards
