This suggestion does not address the OP's question. He wasn't talking about formatting a cell to show two decimal places, he was asking about how to configure Calc so he didn't have to type the decimal point at all. For example, he wants to type in "123456" and have Calc interpret it as "1234.56".

A previous poster gave a possible solution, which was to enter all of the data in one column with no decimal points, then in the adjacent column, put in a formula to divide each number in the first column by 100. (And then format the second column to display 2 decimal places.) This would be another step but if there are a lot of numbers to be entered, it could save some time.

Highlight any cell or range of cells and you can right click, choose
format and click on the "number" tab. Choose how many decimal places
there.

RE: OO.o Calc
Can this program be set to automatically place a decimal before the last two
digits. It is very inconvenient to hit the decimal point for each data point in
a long list of inputs and slows down the data entry.

In OO.o write:
What is the fastest way to go back and forth between worksheets in a workbook,
when comparing data?
