Openoffice is not 100% Word compatible, just 99%. Most of the documents move OK between both programs, but sometimes complex format doesn't. "Professional looking" resumes usually use that kind of format. The easiest solution is to send the curriculum in pdf format. It will probably look more professional anyway. The long and best solution is to try to discover what is the exact format option that doesn't translate well and fill a "bug report" in the openoffice web page. This error will likely be corrected in the future.
