OOo is a very large and complex package and (IMNSHO) the installation process compares favourably to other software with similar functionality. BTW registration is optional. Understand that OOo is not a Microsoft Office clone. By default OOo uses the standard (ISO/IEC 26300:2006) Open Document Format, which MS Office does not currently have the ability to use. However, OOo can both open and save in MS Office formats with a high degree of compatibility. Over several years I have installed and uninstalled several versions of OOo on hundreds of computers and have never found this to be an issue. On this point, I may be wrong, but I have a strong suspicion that you are referring to the Windows file associations that you actively selected when you installed OOo. If this is the case, I would agree with you that OOo's uninstall procedure should be changed, to offer the option to restore these associations to their original state. Please understand that OOo is an ongoing community project not a company product, which is developed and supported by volunteers, with the assistance of some corporations (mainly Sun Microsystems) and has limited development resources available to it. No it is not and does not claim to be perfect, but in the few short years of it's existence (see: http://about.openoffice.org/index.html#history ) it has made and will continue to make considerable progress and improvements. I am not sure that sarcastic remarks are really "justified", if you consider the things I have outlined above. I feel that if you had taken a little more time to look through some of the information provided in the program's help function and/or some of the basic documentation on the website, or even posting a question in this forum, you could have saved yourself some stress. Whether or not you continue to be frustrated and/or angry about OOO, please post back to this list with details of the files you believe have been left behind on your computer and we will do what we can to assist you in resolving this issue.
