Since I don't run Windows, I'll have to describe from memory. Right click on the file icon. Select Open with, then on the panel where you chose the application, there's a check box for always using that app. Select it and it will restore Word as the default app. Incidentally, there's no reason why you can't have both office suites on your computer.
