Harold,
Thank you for getting back to me. I am at the hair pulling stages of this
computer mess. I tried downloading open office to my computer, but it did
not work. After 4 tries, I gave up. The patch never took, I guess. I am
not computer savvy. I tired emailing the documents, that didn't work. I
tired using a zip drive, that didn't work. I tried opening the documents in
notebook, that didn't work. Any suggestions, would be appreciated.

OpenOffice (OO) Writer can open WordPerfect files but I'm not sure which
versions OO can handle. It can also save files in MS Word format. So you
might well be able to do WordPerfect -> OpenOffice -> MS Word.
You can install and use OO completely free of charge so it won't cost you
anything to try. You might even like it; it does most things MS Office
does (OO Writer competes with Word, Calc with Excel, Impress with
Powerpoint and Base with Access) and does many of them better (including
free support from this mail list ;-) ). Microsoft is working hard to make
its latest Office software compatible with the International Standards
Organisation's Open Document Format used natively by OpenOffice.
