So, where paragraphs are numbered a reference to that paragraph's number
can be inserted?
you must first choose Tools - Outline Numbering and apply a number
format to the respective Outline/Heading level.
Then you can choose Insert - Fields - Other, then highlight each heading
in the document and set this as a reference. Don't close the dialog.
Then place the cursor in the document where you want the reference -
something like "see chapter ##" where ## is replaced by the field to
display the current number of that chapter.
Select Insert Reference and set the format to "Chapter".
