You're right - I had a senior moment.  It is also the
default setting with Solaris 10, it would seem. Since
it works well for me, I see no reason to change it.

Of course, there are occasions when I use chmod on
files so less people can read them (Privacy) or so
thay can be executed (Downloaded software, for
example).
