After replying to your e mail I feel compelled to write again. As a pleasant sort of person, I was going to ignore your condesending remark "Simply saying "it doesn't work" is not giving us a fair chance to help you."

I am using Open Office as it was recommended  on the BBC's Click programme. They said the support was very good. I can remove it and use Microsoft if you would prefere not to be bothered by tiresome requests. I am sure your comments were not meant to sound rude but maybe you should consider your words more carefully.

We're not trying to be rude, but please remember a couple of things.

1) This list is supported by volunteers, who try to help others with using OpenOffice.  We are not paid to do this.  The vast majority of us are simply users, who have absolutely no other connection with OpenOffice.  Only some of us, myself included, have professional experience in providing software support.

2) When you have a problem, it is incumbent on you to describe it as best you can, so that we can solve the problem or ask questions to get further details.  Would to take your car to a mechanic as say "It doesn't work, fix it"?  Here the problem is compounded as we cannot see your computer, you may be running on a different operating system or you may have conflicting software, and we must rely entirely on the information you provide, in order to suggest a fix.  So, Harold was not being rude.  He was simply asking for something to work with.
