Anything that is labeled "Red Hat" is likely to cost - they target the
Enterprise and bundle service. The latest version of CentOS will be
either the same as the latest Red Hat or one release back (if the latest
Red Hat is "just out the door"). My experience with CentOS (and hence
Red Hat) is that you sacrifice "the latest stuff" for stability.
I suggest getting Fedora, it is much more "leading edge" (or "bleeding
edge" if you prefer). I am running Fedora 6, simply because I have been
too lazy to upgrade to F7 or F8, but you should get the latest.
Caveats on ANY Red Hat stuff - a few things are missing because they are
squeaky-clean on Intellectual Property issues (there is an extra
repository, Livna, NOT run by RH from which you can get some of this
stuff), and they appear to have tinkered OpenOffice so it is sort of
recommended you give that a miss and install the version from the
official OO website.

Define "best".
A popular distro for beginners is Ubuntu. However, the version of
OpenOffice that comes with it apparently has some problems, so you may
want to install the one from www.openoffice.org, instead of the one that
comes with it.
