I see... then what you need to do is to use the "Update style" that
you will find in the styles and formatting window. Set the tab stops
using the ruler, then, while the cursor is still on the paragraph, hit
F11 to open the styles and formatting window, then click on the last
icon and select the second entry in the pop up menu.

Disclaimer: I didn't try, so maybe it doesn't work, but definitely the
purpose of the update style function is to transfer manual formatting
into a style.
