OpenOffice is a full office suite, similar to Microsoft Office. It is possible to have both OpenOffice and Microsoft Office on the same computer, without problems, as I do at work. I have also installed OpenOffice on a computer that already had Word Perfect and again no issues. I have not had any experience with Quatro Pro. > I went into "control panel" and uninstalled Open Ofice. What are you referring to by "O.P."? If OpenOffice, it's usually expressed as "OO". Are you saying the file menus in Quatro Pro look like OpenOffice? > > I have uninstalled Word Perfect, and re-installed it again to see if > this purged the system, > but Quatro pro still shows the same tale tale signs of O.P. > > Would it help to download O.P again and tell it "not to open all > programs or documents with O.P." > and then uninstall it again, to see it it then removes all residual > commands?? That option in OpenOffice refers to making OpenOffice the default for Microsoft Office documents, such as Word's .DOC files. Are you saving Word Perfect files in Word format? If so, that might explain some of this. The same applies to Quatro Pro and Excel files. > > I bought the Microsoft suite and I am concerned about installing it > and losing control to Open Office. > This is whay I am writing to get feed back from you. As I mentioned above, you can have both on the same system. However, if you install Microsoft Office, you will have to reset your file associations, if you want OpenOffice to be the default application for Microsoft Office files. This is easy to do. > > I have no intention of bashing O.P. A couple of years ago, I was at IBM providing Windows and application support for a very large customer. All too often the only fix was to reinstall. In fact, it was necessary so frequently, that the customer had an easy to use process for a a user to get their system re-imaged. I have never seen that sort of behaviour in Linux or OS/2 ( I used OS/2 for many years and also provided 3rd level OS/2 support at IBM).
