Thats exactly what I did and the answer was C2!
Well, I don't know what to tell you then. It works fine here.

Can I suggest trying something slightly different. Not that JK's description is at all wrong, but you never know what another approach might show. I'm going to be long-winded, I'm afraid..........

Open a new spreadsheet

Click once on cell A1 (it should be highlighted)
press the digit key '1' once, then hit enter. (The cell contains a 1)

Click once on cell B2 (highlights)
press the digit key '2' once, then enter (Cell contains a 2)

Click once on cell C3 (highlights)
press the = key (highlight disappears, cell contains = ) Do NOT hit enter yet!
Click once on B2 (cell C3 contains =B2 with the B2 highlighted)
Press the - (subtract) key (cell contains =B2- )
Click once on A1 (cell C3 contains =B2-A1 with the A1 highlighted)
Press enter. Cell C3 displays 1, cursor has moved away (if you've not tinkered with the calc options!!).

Click again, once, on cell C3. Cell contents show as 1, the formula entry bar just above the spreadsheet proper contains =B2-A1. (If this isn't visible, look to the View menu to enable it.)

Double-click on cell C3. Cell displays the formula instead of the result.

If that doesn't work something's adrift! In which case I suggest putting your failing spreadsheet on a web site and posting a link so we can look at it.
