I am using windows XP and have been sent an ODS file.

with the ods package.

Please advise.

You don't have to replace anything. ODS files are spreadsheets in the ISO Standard file format, which Microsoft refuses to support. You can install OpenOffice on the same computer as Microsoft Office, as I have done on my work computer. Another method is to install the Sun ODF plug-in, which will enable Microsoft Office to read & write ODF files.
