You'd mentioned that you waited 15 minutes and the file still would not open... a few things come to mind. Note: before doing anything else, make a copy of the file and keep it in another directory or someplace save - never try recovery on a file without first backing up. 1. Do you have any hyperlinks in the spreadsheet (see 'hyperlinks' in Help)? If so Calc could very well be trying to connect to the hyperlink/link and is not finding it. Eventually OOo may time out, but I'm not sure about this, so you might want to just let it try to keep loading for awhile longer. I recall some bug old reports that mentioned even up to 1 hour for broken hyperlinks but can't seem to find the report(s) now. If this might be the case, one thing you can try is to turn off automatic URL recognition and then try opening the spreadsheet: Tools|Autocorrect|Options|URL Recognition You might also try: Tools|Options|OpenOffice.org Calc|General|Updating - Update links when opening: On request or never. 2. Does the spreadsheet have linked OLE objects? Perhaps OOo is not finding the linked OLE. If so, again, perhaps waiting awhile longer will result in the spreadsheet eventually opening up. 3. Have you been saving it as an alternate format other than ods (xls etc)? If you have it set to save as an xls (as many do simply for easy of transfer) rather than an ods, check your Tools|Options|Load/Save|Microsoft Office settings. These settings are for OLE coversion between OOo and MS - try changing the settings for Excel. 4. Try starting & opening the document from the command line as a new document. This will generally show you any errors that the program is having opening the document. From a terminal window: cd <path to where file is located> scalc -n <filename> If all else, you should be able to recover the data from the xml data in the file. Try the above first & see if that helps - then if not, come back & someone can help you recover the xml data. All of the above are pretty much shots in the dark as there really isn't much to go on at this point. -- You have been cc'd on this post as you have posted to an open OOo mailing list.
