To Users and Wade Smart: First of all, I keep a file on just about everything that the list has on it, and I have no record of the question being asked.
There is nothing called “the list”. There are a number of OpenOffice.org mailing lists. See http://www.openoffice.org/mail_list.html .
The first one that appears here is this list, the users’ list which is defined as being for “questions relating to the use of OpenOffice.org (the application).” Nothing is said about making announcements about OpenOffice.org on this list. New versions are not even “officially” announced here. But you don't need to keep a file on everything in this list. Just search the archives.
The second list. the announce list. is said to be “The primary list for important, community-wide announcements.” This is where I would expect announcements for conferences proposals and for voting to appear. Check in the archives in December 2007, January 2008, February 2008, and March 2008 for announcements about the conference. If you want to be kept informed of such things you should subscribe to it.
Lisi Reisz has said to me that the question was asked, so that means the list failed to make sure everyone got that message!
That isn’t the purpose of this list. You might as well say that a teacher’s federation forum failed because it didn’t make sure that everyone got that message.
Secondly, I have suggested that a separate list be made for any and all Political discussions and that they be excluded from the Users and Discuss list, so that people of all backgrounds can learn without rancor or arrogance! Is there any possibility of that happening? Probably not, knowing the prevalent attitude of those predominant on the list and until that happens, you can count me out!!!
Something like that happened long ago. On the list page, there is a list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To be sure, it is rather inactive.
If you want to be counted out of this list because there isn’t an OpenOffice.org list discussing politics, so be it, however illogical that seems to me. There are innumerable mailing lists and forums on the web discussing politics you can participate in if that is what you want. You aren't being short changed because, to judge from [EMAIL PROTECTED] most people involved with OpenOffice.org either aren't interested in that kind of thing, or are interested in doing it in other mailing lists and forums.
And, YES, this list IS responsible for that decision, especially when is DOES NOT inform the members of what is going on, which is why that kind of thing should be on a separate list, such as the DEV list, which I do not and cannot use anyway! :-( >:o
That kind of thing *is* on a separate list, [EMAIL PROTECTED] , where the announcements can’t get buried in other material.
That you weren’t subscribing to it (or reading its archives occasionally) is unfortunate.
