I beleive that many leave it on the desktop to use as a default setup repository. Apparently there are occasions when the easiest way to restore a user-fscked[1] OO.o is to rewrite the originals over the existing files. But when i think about it, i have not seen this form of repair offered as advice on this list for a long time.
