BTW: where are you getting M6 from? M3 installed fine for me (.deb
files), but M5 keeps wanting to be king of the hill and take over my
2.4.0.

This is Pavel Janik's build.
Thanks - got it. Whew, that build doesn't install to ooo-dev and instead
installs to /opt/openoffice.org3.0, so it took me awhile to figure out
how to get 2.3.1, 2.4.0, and 3.0M6 all working on the same machine.
2.3.1 exhibits the problem described by the OP - but not consistent -
meaning that sometimes it goes into cpu overload, other times not.
Sometimes can open, sometimes not - very odd.
2.4.0 & 3.0M6 open OK, but 3.0M6 is definitely slower in opening.
Additionally, the document spacing is different between the two. Example:
- page 20 in M6 shows 'Student' thru 'Afstudeer coördinator'.
- Page 20 in 2.4.0 'maart t/m mei 2007 literatuurstudie' thru
'Student'.
Both running on the same system, both are open at the same time & using
the same fonts. I'm not sure where the spacing problem comes from.
I wonder if the problem on 2.3.1 & SO8/9 and 2.4.0 (see below) are
related to the fact that the document is basically a 21 page table.
I also found that if I select the table in 2.4.0 and give it borders, I
get a cpu overload (this is a 2.4Ghz/1GB system). I do not have the same
problem with 3.0M6.
So it appears to be a problem in the 2.x as you mentioned in your
initial reply. My guess would be that he would not encounter the problem
if he'd have used frames instead of a 21 page table.
Yes ..... that I thought was a rather strange choice for formatting the
document. But, that said, technically OO shouldn't really care about
semantics.
I will submit a bug report later today about this issue.
