I had OpenOffice.org 2.0 on a Windows 98 system (450 MHz, 256 MB Dell
Dimension XPS) and
it was slow enough to make me very mad and wanting to throw the shit out
through my window. I went back to 1.1.5 and I was happy with that (comared
to what I was with 2.0) until I bought a new computer with Windows XP.
OpenOffice.org 2.0 worked fine with XP on my new laptop (1.6 GHz, 2 GB) but
it was when I unstalled Ubuntu (dual boot with XP) things started to feel
really nice. Right now I am trying out KDE (still old 3.5 version) and it
feels good too. I am sure people who used Windows for many years will adapt
to KDE somewhat faster than to Gnome, so I would recommend Kubuntu to a
Linux beginner with Windows experience and Xubuntu to someone with very old
hardware.
