Yes, it is certainly an issue with the non-intermediated examples. As I suggested earlier, perhaps one solution to that would be to install a similar conf file with proton. This would not alter the configuration mechanism for those familiar with cyrus sasl, but would avoid the issue 'out of the box' in much the same way as qpidd and qdrouterd do.
