Great, hope that works out. I think your timidity problems could be
solved using aconnect or aconnectgui. I'd have to install and run
rosegarden to be sure...

Let us know if you still have problems after getting the soundfont. Also
be aware that there are free soundfonts available (not sure about Free)
if you have trouble getting the SB one downloaded.
