As fanboy-ish as your declaration may sound (to me at least), one would be
hard pressed to prove you wrong about MythTV.

I apologize for coming off as bitter, I really do appreciate Linux.

And on a somewhat related note (sorry about hijacking over your thread, but
I am finding it hard to resist this chance to have some much needed closure
and catharsis with this experience I've had)..
<rant>
For almost any kind of server application, I wouldn't want anything else.
However, after going through the nightmare of trying to get Ubuntu/Kubuntu
into a usable state on my IBM Thinkpad T42 laptop this last weekend, and as
such it will be a few years before I seriously consider trying to make the
switch to Linux for any of my systems which I use on a day-to-day basis. I
really thought it would be fine, seeing as how I am a CS major and the
majority of the applications I use are available for Windows and Linux.

Problems I encountered:
-KDE/Gnome at 1024x768 allow you to view about 1/2 the amount of text that
you could view in windows at that resolution.
-I felt physically asphyxiated after realizing this (I know..it's kind of
psycho or whatever but that is how I felt).
-Ubuntu has a thinkpad profile
-Half of the "features" of the Thinkpad T42 will not work in Linux.
-Hard drive shock protection is a no-go in Linux.
-Ubuntu did not recognize my laptop as a Thinkpad.
-Page forward/backward keys did not work (I'm positive there is a
way to map them out, but it's a matter of the amount of time it would
take me to figure it out).

Needless to say, things weren't smooth and I'm back on the mind-numbing XP
bandwagon.
Sad Indeed.

Again, I apologize if I have violated any of the sacred list posting rules
with this.

Best Regards,
Jay Taylor

Well this should come as no surprise to any of use here on the list, but
I think this just stands to show that the free and open kicks DRM sorry
little heiny. We want power to do what we want, not protection from it.
