This kind of perks my interest. I am curious as to see how many on this
list who use or have used linux exclusively on the desktop made the plunge
in one fatal swoop, rather than spreading the process out.

I'm confusing, so I will give an example.

I first touched linux in a server environment. When I decided to put it on
my desktop, I used redhat and tried (and failed) about 7 installs before I
gave up and went back to windows. About a year went by and I tried debian
(in a dual-boot). I ended up booting less and less into debian and soon it
became a wasted partition. Formatted it and put it back to ntfs.

I came home from my mission and decided to try it again. I finally
installed linux on the laptop I had at the time and used it exclusively for
6 months before needing to come back to the world of windows. (Aside: It
was pretty tough to get used to windows again...)

So, long story short and back to my original question...anyone here jump
straight into linux, or is it pretty standard to merge your linux on the
desktop use over a period of time?
