Hi Steve

Just read about the sad demise of your trusty friend and almost you,
sounds to me like a case of driving without due care and attention on
the part of the van driver, had the same happen to me May 97 a guy
pulled straight out, gave me no chance, wife and me were cut form the
wreck (BM 525) and all the idiot who caused it could say was "sorry mate
didn't see you" ,well that don't cut it in my book, I lost my job and
I've still lots of problems now, back, wrist etc, in the UK there are a
lot of companies that will help you fight to get you full compensation
loss of earnings, pain and suffering and any uninsured losses like maybe
your riding gear, helmet(should be replaced after ANY impact), or excess
,and it won't cost you a thing, they charge every thing to the other
drivers insurance,
The company that helped me was ACH. Tel 01179-571187 worth a try.

Just a thought, the guy that nearly killed me was prosecuted for driving
without due care and attention, all he got was 300 fine and five
points, nothing up the suffering the wife and I have had to endure, but
in the March edition of Super Bike there's a case of a biker caught
speeding and being sent to prison for FIVE months!, he also got a 3 year
ban and he must retake both driving tests (bike, car), he lost his
job,and almost his sanity because while he was in prison 15 inmates
were cut with knives, and 12 others were Jugged-(covered in boiling
water mixed with sugar so it sticks to the skin, removing it in lumps),
on top of this he had thousands of pounds in legal bills to pay, and got
a criminal record as well, and for What,- 150 miles per hour on a quite
dual carriageway, he hurt no one, caused no accident, the judge just
made an example of him, well it stinks, its about time some of these
car/van drivers were made a example of, because I would all rather come
up against a speeder who is switched on and alert than some idiot day
dreaming!
Sorry to rant on, but sometimes it's just got to be said, get well soon
.
