James,
Indeed ... why not just buy an R1 ??!? Not a whole lot of money there
.... but that is a "secret of life" statement ... I don't think the
money is the issue and it just isn't the same experience .... How
about if the government gave anyone who wanted one the "latest and
greatest" pinnacle of technology bike free every year if you wanted
one, (but you couldn't change it in any way) ?? Everyone would be
zooming around on their new bikes ??!? Would they ?? Would you really
want one after the first year ??!? What if in a few years ... everyone
started riding bikes ... swap the statistics for autos vs bikes ....
where the autos were the minority .... what would you have in the
garage ?? Roll into a parking lot .... your Vmax, (even if it is
stock), and 37 plastic crotch rockets all of which can easily go 200
mph .... which bike gets the attention ?? Go to a car show and see 49
C5 Corvettes in a row ... where some have written "200 mph" on the
windshield .. but right next to them is a 1937 Chevy with the most
immaculate detail and the most outrageous equipment ... Which one gets
the attention ?? I think it is nice to have one of those "other"
things to help maintain a basis of comparison but not to be your
number one ..... Everyone really wants to be an individual and to be
able to have the ability to have their differences recognized .....
when that is suppressed they end up shooting a classmate. (IMHO) ....
