Tom,
I used to worry about this .. but since changing to synthetic I think
it is academic. The synthetic is so light, (viscosity wise), when it
is cold that it gets distributed almost instantaneously .........
However ... if you would like to get some of the oil distributed
before actually starting the engine then ........... you can either
pull the plug wires, (pulling the plugs too will make it easier to
spin), and ground them. You can also disconnect the "connector" with
the pickup coil lead/leads in it ... it is behind the battery and
coils .... you will see the "cloth" covered leads heading to the
connector coming up the left side of the engine and up the left side
of the gas tank ... Just behind the coils you should find a connector
where they transition to plastic insulation and enter the wiring
harness ....... If you disconnect this "connector" the engine will not
be able to fire the plugs ...... Either way .. you will be able
"crank" the engine without it actually starting and will give the oil
an opportunity to fill the filter and begin circulation. I am not
aware of any process where you shift into 5th ... or spin the tire
...... other than if this was a method intended to turn the engine
manually.
