Thomas,
That is interesting ... thanks for the post ... I remember Big Bore
Bert complaining to me that he could get no reading at idle, (after
warm up), on his 1500 ........
For what it is worth ... in the Royal Star service manual ... they
actually have a section dedicated to "checking" the oil pressure and
use an adapter, (Yomama 90890-03124 .. gotta work on a Max too ...),
at the main gallery bolt, (big plug on the lower right side of the
engine). They claim that you should read 36-50 psi, (250-350 kpa), at
5000 RPM with an oil temperature of 100 degrees C, (212 F).
They also have a routine to verify you "have" oil pressure at idle.
Did you ever notice that little "nut" on the christmas tree in the
middle of the engine valley ?? (this guy also has feeds on it that go
to the cam shafts) ..... They say .. you should loosen this nut,
(points out to the side), and "idle" the engine ........ quote: "Start
the engine and keep it idling until oil starts to seep from the oil
gallery bolt. If no oil comes out after one minute, turn the engine
off so that it will not seize."
