Speaking of oil delivery. I installed an oil pressure gage during the
rebuild and I am amazed at the pressures I get in relation to engine temp.
I am still in the break-in period so I am using conventional 10W-40 as PCW
requested. Torco is the brand. At start-up when she is cold it jumps right
up and will max at about 70-80psi (usually 70) at 4000 rpm. I am pretty
sure that the relief valve is setting this pressue because I can see it jump
around some. At idle it shows 35psi. By the time the water temp is in the
normal zone the pressures are about 50 at 4K and 20 at idle. After about
20-30 minutes of riding 4K is 35psi and idle is not on the peg but less than
the first incriment which is 5psi. Sure takes the oil a long time to warm
up. This would have scared me if PCW had not warned me that it would not
show oil pressure at idle. I know others have installed pressure gages.
How have your pressures been? I am curious how they will be when I switch
to Redline full synthetic 10W-40.
