This sounds like it may be heat related. I'd check all the wiring & be sure
to tie it out of the way as far as possible from any sources of heat. My
starter began to engage after my bike had warmed up & it turned out to be
the harness that runs from the switch across the front of the frame was
sitting against the front cyl bank coolant line. I used a tie wrap to secure
it out of the way & the problem vanished.

Bad news on the electrical shutdown problem while cruising.
I installed a
new TCI unit tonight and I still have the same problem. The
bike will run
fine for a while and then starts missing and dies, usually
when I slow down
to stop. I have figured out that when this happens only the
number three
cylinder is firing. When I let the bike sit for a while it
cranks back up
and I can ride it back home. Every electrical connection on
my bike has been
cleaned and has dielectric grease in it. The vent on the
gas tank is also
fine. The ignition coils check out good as do the pick-up
coils. I do have
a Dale Walker electric shifter, rev limiter and MSD shift
light on the bike,
they are coming off in that order. The power to the shifter
and rev limiter
has been disconnected and the problem is still occurring. I
can only think
to take them completely off the bike. One good note, while
the bike was down
I put in solid motor mounts, took the tin cup out of the oil
pan, rejetted
the carburetor and put on a new bigger back tire, all of
which worked great
up until the Bike died. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Paul
