Bob, I think you might have something there. Last time it happened to me, I
stuck my hand up behind the rear head's radiator hose and brought down a
burning hot wire pair and connection which seemed to come from the general
direction of the fuel pump. By then, I'd been sitting for at least 30
minutes and had tried to crank it up two or three time with no success.
Five minutes after I shoved the connection back up, but away from the hose,
she started right up and ran all the way home. Here again, the weather was
hot and humid (92/89%) and the bike even hotter (believe it or not, the
only traffic jams in St. Augustine occur on Sunday afternoons, and the
local police tend to frown on lane sliders). I'm going right down to put a
rubber hose around those wires. This shouldn't take me more than a week,
and I'll keep y'all posted on the results.
