Robert (TC & Steve and all who responded)
The barbs (Robert) had me going for a bit there but I fingered it out.I'm
sure it is in fact a carb problem associated with the addition of the 4/1
Hindle header.I did a little more today with it and checked some of the
plugs that I had pulled before the stage 7 kit .One rich on 2 the sets that
I saved.Never throw anything away that will collect dust in your tool box
for the next two years.Any way the conclusion is as follows. The problem
existed with a stage 1 kit installed and when I first put the Hindle 4/1
header on.I've swapped coils and wires to verify ignition and am pretty good
at jetting and tuning (I thought).I also started playing around with
different settings (low speed mixture screw settings) on all the cylinders
to see what would occur. It does make a slight difference on plug coloration
(definate effect on performance) but not to cause the drastic change in
coloration on the one cylinder,I'm just getting to much fuel to that jug
.I'm down to one turn on #4 adjustment needle and the plug is starting to
look decent but now noticing a definate decrease in performance (low
end).I'm going to pull the rack tomorrow and disassemble the offending
carb. The first thing I will look at is the small diaphram assoiciated with
the coasting circuit (?? Yamaha's description) which in looking at there
schematic could cause the problem I'm having. The real tick off of the whole
thing is that the bike idles well and runs like its set on fire.Just not
happy unless Mr Max is correct. Bob H
