I have a Dynojet stage 1 kit installed on my 97 Vmax. I found that the best
results I got were with the DJ 160 main jets and the needles in the #2
position, with the Y removed. It pulled hard all the way from idle to
redline. I couldn't leave well enough alone. I trimmed the airbox and air
filter as per previous posts and tech recommendations. The problem now is
that the engine falls on it's face above 6000. I installed MK 140 into the
PAJ 2 position and suspected that the mains were lean so I installed DJ 165
main jets. A road test indicated that I might be going in the right
direction, so installed DJ 170 mains. Road test was no better. Just to
eliminate the mains, I installed MK 170 mains (equivilent to DJ 180-
approx) , and road tested. No better. I reinstalled the DJ 165's, and road
tested one more time. I can't say things are any better now than when I
started. The engine will rev to redline as long as too much throttle is not
applied, but will hesitate majorly if I'm too aggresive with the throttle.
It literally falls on its' face, and surges and burbles away. I'm wondering
if I have to start treating this as a stage 7 install (or stage 1-7 hybrid),
and get ahold of some air correctors (as this problem seems to be related to
internal airbox pressure). I am trying to get some PFJ 42.5's from the
local Yamaha dealer, but have waited almost 2 weeks for them to come in.
Does anyone have any experiences with this kind of problem? Will changing
the float height correct this problem? I am considering locating another
cover, and using it until I figure out how to make this work. I also wonder
if anyone has a chart indicating carb circuits vs rpm. I have the dynojet
chart, but it only shows idle to redline. I would think a chart with rpm
and carb circuits would be a great tuning help.
Thanks for the help in advance.
