Don
I don't know what pipe your running or your location (altitude) and filter
(K&N?)but you should have stopped when you had it right.By trimming the air
box you in fact created a hybrid of the stage 7 without the correct jetting
including the airjet restrictors.I started with the stage 1 kit and just the
"Y" removed at sea level with a 4/1 hindle and the bike gave me fits at low
end no matter what I did with needle settings, mains, air, etc.It had a
stumble coming off of the low speed circuit."Y" on and it was fine.I have
found that the syage 7 is MUCH more sensitive to minor change because you
are on the edge all the time between good low speed, all out go like hel* at
high speed and the happy medium. The stage 1 mains at sea level are the DJ
165's or MK 157.5,needle position #2 with stock PAJ2 with the "Y"
installed. The difference with the folks that are running with "Y" removed
and or modified air box is the exhaust.Stock or slipons and you can get away
with it.Full flow baffle (header) and you
start getting into the area where a diff in temp, humidity etc. will affect
performance.I guess what I'm trying to say is that unless you have a Hindle
4/1,Kirker or equivilent system and want to (and enjoy) playing with MR.
MAX'S performance stay with the stage 1 and go back to the stock air
box.I'll send you mine (no charge) if you pay the shipping if that is what
you decide to do. Bob H
P.S. FYI > Stage 7-170 mains,175 DJ PAJ2,#2 on the needles with 2 1/2 turns
on the low speed. Also found #4's problem. The brass screw in the spark plug
cap was loose and also found corrosion on the springs in all four plug
caps.I'll post that soon with explanation and suggestions.
