Dave did you have the first service at 800? Thats too soon, it needs to
be at 12-1,500 miles so the valves will have time to take a set. I don't
know why Yamaha has movd it up to 600, which is way too soon. Its the
same design they started with on the FZ750. Every 26,000 check them.
Once set they rarely move. Yes, drain it and use the Castrol till 4,000.
