Yes it is adding an additional spring. The way a
lockup works is by allowing the clutch to slip initially
when you release the clutch on the line.This cushions
the driveline hit the tire sees and allows the tire to
hook up without spinning. Now the lockup component
of clutch begins to work there are usually 6 right angled
levers that pivot on pins, one side of the lever applies
pressure to the face of the clutch plate (pressure plate)
the other end of the levers have a drilled hole, weight
(screws,nuts and washers) are added to this end of the
lever. So the faster the clutch spins the more force the
lever applies to the clutch pressure plate (centrifugal force)
This all happens in a fraction of a second and when the
setup is right it's a beautiful thing!
