I suspect you're right about the rich/lean preference of the tune to how
they run on different gasoline.
My bike is tuned on the rich side now, and loves the low octane. How it was
before ('98) I'm not sure.

As for the hydraulic clutch fluid, my '85 was still FULL from the factory
filling in 1998, before I replaced it due to moisture absorption (it's
almost due again). So that makes 13 years with no loss. You've got a leak
bro! Take your new bike back for warranty work. If you replace the clutch
fluid yo'self, take care during the bleeding process - it can be take a
while to get all of the air out unless you pressure bleed it...
