I have a set of Avons on my bike. My bike has the chaindrive conversion on
it and with that, came a GSXR 17" rear tire. I have an Avon Azure av36
180-55-17 on the rear and an av27 110-80-18 on the rear. These are both
sticky as hell and grip the pavement, even in rainy Portland. I recommend
Avons.
On a side note, I am assuming that PCW did this when they did the chain
conversion. My fuel tank only seems to hold about 2-2.5 gallons. My fuel
light comes on at 45 miles. This sucks in the biggest way. There are no
long trips I can take and it means that I end up filling it with gas every
2-3 days. It still beats a car. And yes, if you did the math, that is
around 20 mpg. I do not do wheelies or burnies, mostly because I do not
know how and am scared to death to ruin my bike. The carbs have a jet kit
in them and I have a 2.75" header with a D&D exhaust. It sounds like heaven
other than it is empty. I will be replacing the can as I know it is
completely hollow. Is there any other reason that any of you know that
would cause me to get so low fuel economy? And I already know the "don't
ride it so hard". I do not pamper it, but I do not beat the crap out of it
either. Also, on deceleration or just letting off the gas, it backfires
quite a bit. I am assuming this is because of the exhaust can.

PS - Upon re-reading my last posting and all of your responses to my last
posting about the "social riding" stuff, I apologize. It is true that we
only have ice and snow about one week per year here in Portland. I leather
up and keep bundled. The wind-chill is in the teens here and it must have
gone well below 0 before I wrote the last email. Again, I apologize.
