There are two ways you can go. You can run the 12 volt ballasts and
lamps on the 12 volt battery, charged through your good battery charger
while on shore power or you can install two sets of lamps, one 12 volt
ballast and lamps to run on battery, and a second set to run on shore
power. Either will stretch your battery the same amount. The overall
efficiency of running 12 volt lamps while on shore power is a little
smaller, but with shore power efficiency isn't quite as important. The
indirect use of fluorescent on battery charged by shore power still is
more efficient than any incandescent lamp whether on battery charged by
shore power or by shore power directly.
