Greetings list lurkers of all stripes,
I just got the note below:
I am looking around in the body for where the message is. I always
thought that the general idea with email is that somewhere in the body was
the payload information. I know that this is revisionist, but I am really
insulted in receiving a message that is such a pain to read, especially
from folks who are supposed to be savvy about IT!
Coming late into this thread and after reading all the posts, it seems to me
that, legit complaints notwithstanding, what we have here is a 'failure to
communicate'.
From my perspective, the only folks that are savvy about IT are geeks like us,
not the PHBs and policy wonks who usually run the show, and to whom people like
the gov take their cues.
Also, lets get real. We are, by-n-large a loose-knit group
of geeks, most of whom gainfully employed and not really intent on organizing.
Our promotion of FOSS rarely goes beyond the monthly meetings of cool/new stuff,
tools that we find useful. We're hardly jumping on the bandwagon of developing
entreprenuership;
beyond a few members, who are even then can be more exclusive than inclusive
(ala FOSS-VT).
Does vtSDA have any members participating on this list?
Do mainstream Tech companies like Summit, Verison, Vermont Information
Processing, The Tech Group, allscripts,
et al.. seek our inputs?
Do local mainstream business that above cater and sell to hear our message?
No disrespect intended to the loyal vague cadres, but frankly (and despite what
I believe
insofar as increasing potential for FOSS in these leaner times) we are a small
back-water
in a sea of conformity to the legions of corporate hegemony.
Until, or if ever, we decide to get seriously as an advocacy group and create
the
chanells that can effectively reach-out and demonstrate viable alternatives we
will remain
a parliment of crows; a happy group that sits on the high-wires watching
traffic below
and scooping up road-kill.
As to the funding of religious historical edifaces: pity the monies don't
include a hotspot:)
I like to keep in mind that the vtSDA is state funded...
Regards,
Flint

Yes, well, all that 4 digit ID means is that you've wasted that much more of
your life than I have.

I'm just here to say these two young slashdotters have definitely seen the
truth, though they still have a lot to learn from us 3 digit IDers.

I confirm that this story is true. I read about it in the parent comment.
Since my /. ID is even lower than the parent commentor's, this is an even
stronger verification of the story's accuracy.
(P.S. This is how actual journalism works.)

=>I have a 5 digit Slashdot ID, so I think you can count on me being a reliable
source. I got the information from a Slashdot story as well, so you can be pretty
certain it's completely accurate.
I have a 4 digit Slashdot ID and I vouch for the absolute veracity of the
parent, so don't bother fact checking, or I'll go crying to one of the 3
digiters and they'll show you what for.
