This is an unfortunate/uneducated/ignorant question on part of FOREIGNERS who still think India has elephants, snakes on the roads & girls are forced into marriages...it may be true still in v.rural areas of India but hey we are the country of Infosys, Reliance, & other hi-tech modern facilities....
i was & continue to be asked that q even now after 14 yrs in USA when talks come of our marriage etc... i take this opportunity to EDUCATE the Firangis. Unfortunate thing is USA (atleast) thinks it is the world & majority of the folks have no clue about other countries...sad but true.
