I am sorry...I couldn't explain to her in detail. i was rushing into a meeting and the room was behind her desk. She called over and said I heard you are engaged and getting married in India. I coyly (for effect) said Yes... Then she popped the question. I said Oh no, not at all. I said i met him here, my parents havent even seen him yet. That much.
but there are so many stories of forced marriage here...they generalise. Recently one Bangladeshi doctor was being forced into marriage and she was in house arrest in Dhaka. Since she was a Brit citizen she was rescued by the embassy ppl. Among Sikhs too...and then among Pakistani and Indian Muslims... We don't realise that we form the 5-10 per cent of liberated India. Can an ordinary girl ever dare to tell her parents one fine day, you knw what? I am heading to UK for my career. Even many girls in Bombay won't find that easy.
