Don't give in that easily Joel! This is what we need, lively debate. I believe Tim has the right idea, we need to be thinking about the end user first and foremost; Having said that, I think four letter extensions are the norm these days.
As for the original post, should the Vassal devs be looking at other Interface designs for ideas? The Megamek project is a favorite of mine, not because I play the game but because of the way it has been developed as an Open Source project. The Interface is also pretty slick and Intuitive. I believe that if we invent our own, it's just going end up looking amateurish. Which brings me to a gripe with Vassal 3.x. When I select "Load Save Game" it sends me to a screen where I must click "Select" to bring up the file browser; It's an unnecessary extra step. --- In [email protected], Joel Uckelman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Thus spake "b5mith": > > Tim, it's a pity you weren't around to tell Sun not to use the .java > > and .class four letter extensions :) > > > > The only OSs I can think of which could not handle more than 3 > > characters is DOS and possibly Win 3.1.
