I'm using Win7, not XP, but shouldn't be major issue.

The only scenario in which I can get the VM to boot is if I choose
"Disconnected" in the settings for the serial port. Any other setting causes
VB to hang, leaving the MacBook unable to force quit, requiring a hard
power-off reboot. I have tried both Host Device and Host Pipe, both cause the
machine to lock up to the point requiring a power-button restart.

Disabled USB in the settings and set the port to "Disconnected" to get the VM
to boot. If I set com1 in the serial port settings, it always shows up as com3
in Windows. Don't know why. VB boots, but with the setting of "Disconnected",
of course my serial port application in Windows doesn't communicate.
