Just for kicks, do you mind downloading and installing this reactOS appliance VM and see if you get sound on that one? http://sourceforge.net/projects/reactos/files/ReactOS/0.3.17/ReactOS-0.3.17-REL-vbox.zip/download (do not click on any banners or buttons, just wait 10 secs and the download of the .zip file will auto-start). I´m just suggesting this as an easy way to check if sound from VBox to the host system is working without having to install a full blown MS Windows...
