If you would have looked at the changelog from 2.1.4 to 2.2.0, you would have seen that the ehci usb 2.0 controller is now enabled by default for new machines. So, disable the usb 2.0 ehci controller in your new vm, and you should be ok. In regards to xp, I thought that xp supports the ehci controller out of the box, but I guess it doesn't, or at least not in your case anyway for some reason. > > In addition the XP guest doesn't 'see' any USB devices that I capture. My memory may be playing tricks on me, and this might not apply to GNU/Linux hosts, but I seem to remember that when upgrading vbox on a windows host in the past, I had to plug a usb device in, unplug it after the host recognized it, and plug it back in, and it would then be picked up by the guest.
